While some plumbing projects are beyond the skill set of the average homeowner, many are easy and could save you hundreds of dollars.
Thousands of articles and even complete books are written to help the “do-it-yourself-er”. But lets face it, if you don’t have the proper tools, all the instruction in the world will still leave you struggling. Here’s ten tools you need to make your plumbing chore’s go smooth.
Channellock Tongue and Groove Plier Set
These are in my back pocket for most of the day. I cannot say enough about Channellock. There is no substitute. Their quality and durability is second to none. Some of their uses include holding hot pipes while soldering. Tightening pipes, fittings, nuts and bolts. Even pulling nails.
4in1 screw driver
You probably already have some screwdrivers but I thought I’d mention it anyway. You can never have too many, right? Most faucets will have a screw. When it’s time to fix that drip, pull out the 4in1 driver. By the way, if you remove the driver bit from the shaft you now have a nut driver too. Works good when using repair couplings on drain lines.
Torpedo Level is another valuable tool. Most people know the drain lines need to slope in order to drain. Get a level with a graduated vial. Simply align the levels bubble to the mark and you have set the pipes grade. I personally have levels in 3 different lengths. They each have their uses but for jobs around the house a torpedo will work fine.
